A return to Snowdon and my first summit of 2018
This time on the Rhyd Ddu Path, which was the first route I did on Snowdon, so it was good to do it again. On the right in this picture is Mynydd Mawr and below the sunset is the Nantle Ridge
The snow line was quite high, not until after you have passed through the final gate in the dry stone wall, which was handy as really Bwlch Main in the best part of this route anyway
Not far to go now, I decided to make this set black and white as the colours wasnt very good in them anyway, all handheld images.
Most of the snow was frozen and there was a lot of ice around, this section was impossible without crampons, I did speak to a few people heading down as I came up and the only couple who had made the summit had the correct gear, obviously I had mine.
Lots of patches like this, from the car park there dosent look much snow left but ice like this can make the summit of Snowdon treacherous this time of year.
No idea how many times I have been here, I will never get bored of this 360° view. I have been to Snowdon several times and turned back due to weather conditions not being right to press on, but today was fine.
You can see the PYG track in this shot and in the distance the Glyderau
Time to go, no one about and I wanted to be back below the snowline and off the ridge before it went dark, in fact I made it to the second gate in the wall at SH 597 537 before needing my headlamp
The rest of the shots can be found here Facebook album [cick here] along with many more Snowdonian albums
